The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

Hab 2:4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith.

The “him” here is specifically the Babylonian king and the kingdom of Babylon generally. In the greater metaphorical sense this puffed-up evil person represents anyone who is evil who persecutes the righteous. The Lord clearly identifies the difference between those who are righteous and those who are not. The righteous live by faith in God. They put their trust in their Creator and rest secure in their hope in the divine. They walk in faith, humbly serving the Lord by showing love to their neighbors, caring for those who need care, feeding and clothing the destitute, and worshipping God with pure hearts. The wicked put faith only in themselves. They become “puffed up” with their trust in their own skills, the bounty of their conquests, and their own craftiness. God knows who is righteous because God knows the heart of each man.

They kept looking at these two guys out of the corners of their eyes sort of pulling their righteous garments a little bit closer around them.
