Shut Up

Hab 2:20 But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.”

With this concluding statement Habakkuk draws this brilliant and profound distinction: instead of people speaking to silent false gods, the people should be silent before the living God. The palace of God is in a higher realm than the earth. The earth and all who are in it should shut up and listen to what God has to say. Perhaps instead of all our own follies we could learn from God how to love and our world would be healed instead of constantly being destroyed by our ignorance and willful disobedience.
