James 1:9-11 ESV 9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
James 1:9 KJV Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
James 1:9 NIV The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.
9.0 Introduction to James 1:9
This passage beginning with verse 9 continues through verse 11. Here James contrasts the high with the low, again using word-pictures, to illustrate how high and low socioeconomic statures relate to spiritual conditions. Verse 9 concentrates on the believer in a low social or financial status and the fact he can rejoice in his high place with the Lord.
