Intro to James 1:10

James 1:9-11 ESV 9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

James 1:10 KJV But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

James 1:10 NIV But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.

10.0 Introduction to James 1:10
Verse 10 contrasts the rich to the poor giving the rich man a completely different reason to boast. It offers the rich man hope by instructing him how to come to the same joy as the poor man and tells us why he needs to do so. In the study of this verse we shall examine the nature of riches, pride, and passing away.
